Governor Recognizes Olathe Adult Care Facility

OLATHE – On behalf of Governor Sam Brownback, Lt. Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D., presented an Olathe nursing home with an achievement award today. Evergreen Community received a Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas Nursing Homes (PEAK) award for sustaining person-centered care for its residents.

“I’m proud to recognize Evergreen Community for achieving this standard of excellence,” Lt. Governor Colyer said. “The facility and its staff serve as an example of what we believe all Kansas nursing homes can accomplish.”

The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) recently announced that eight Kansas adult care facilities are 2012 PEAK award recipients. Evergreen Community is the first of the recipients to receive its award.

KDADS oversees the PEAK Nursing Homes Initiative. PEAK awards are issued annually to homes that accomplish significant improvements toward person-centered care in the targeted areas of resident choice, staff empowerment, home environment and meaningful life. Person-centered nursing homes have moved away from the institutional model of nursing home care and toward a more home-like environment in which residents have a say in their day-to-day lives.

“Evergreen Community has made great strides towards providing its residents with person-centered care.” KDADS Secretary Shawn Sullivan said. “We look forward to helping all Kansas adult care facilities achieve the same success.”

Evergreen Community is located at 11875 Sunset Dr., Olathe.
